'Harry Potter' actor Dave Legeno found dead in desert

"Harry Potter" actor David Legeno has died, a
California sheriff's office said. The 50-year-old
British actor, who played werewolf villain Fenrir
Greyback in "Harry Potter and the Half Blood
Prince," and both parts one and
two of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows" died
while hiking near Death Valley, California, said the
Inyo County Sheriff's Office.
Legeno's body was discovered by two hikers on
Sunday in a remote desert location west of Zabriskie
Point and had to be removed by a helicopter,
according to a press release from the Inyo County
Sheriff's Department.
"The remains have been identified as David Legeno, a
50-year-old United Kingdom man. It appears that
Legeno died of heat related issues, but the Inyo
County Coroner will determine the final cause of
death. There are no signs of foul play."
Legeno's other major film credits include "Snow
White and the Huntsman," and 2005's "Batman
Begins." According to the actor's IMDB page, he had
just finished production for "The Last Knights"
starring Morgan Freeman and Clive Owen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter Legeno was
also an MMA fighter and boxer and lived in southern
England with his daughter.

LITTLE GIRL HANGS HERSELF AFTER BRAZIL'S SHAMEFUL WORLD CUP LOSS

Police in Nepal on Thursday said a teenager in eastern Nepal committed suicide after her favourite team Brazil lost badly to Germany in the World Cup semifinals.
The young girl identified as Pragya Thapa, a 10th grade student was depressed and hanged herself from the ceiling on Wednesday morning in Bharaul village located 400 kilometers (250 miles) east of the capital Katmandu.
Her mother found her hanging from the ceiling in her room. She was living with her mother and grandparents while her father was abroad working.
Thapa’s body had been sent for autopsy and police are investigating the incident

PROMINENT HUMAN RIGHT ACTIVIST BAMIDELE ATURU DIES AT 49

One of Nigeria’s foremost human rights lawyers, Bamidele Aturu, is dead. Mr Aturu, known for his commitment to championing human rights and constitutionalism, died in a Lagos hospital on Wednesday evening after a brief illness. Associates of the deceased confirmed his death.

The late lawyer was one of the founding members of a political group committed to pursuing deep-rooted democratic principles and holding those in power accountable to the governed – Democratic Alternative.

He came to prominence as a fighter against power abuses when, as a member of the National Youth Service Corps, he refused to shake the hand of a military administrator of Niger State, Col. Lawan Gwadabe, in 1988 during his NYSC passing out parade declaring that the military had caused great harm to the democratic aspirations of Nigerians.

Mr Aturu studied law at the University of Ife, and devoted much of his legal practice to representing marginalised or oppressed individuals and groups.

He was nominated as a member of the ongoing national confab, but he renounced his membership, arguing that the conference was designed to achieve nothing.

KESHI DEMANDS N10m A MONTH BEFORE SIGNING A NEW CONTRACT

Stephen Keshi has reportedly demanded a significant salary raise before he puts pen to paper on a new contract to remain as Super Eagles coach. Keshi, who announced last week that his contract with theNigeria Football Federation had expired after the Super Eagles crashed out of the World Cup following their 2-0 defeat by France, told President Goodluck Jonathan that he will sign a new deal if the NFF agrees to pay him N10m a month, double his initial pay of N5m a month in his contract.

Africanfootball.com reported that Keshi made the demand when he met with Jonathan at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on arrival from the World Cup in Brazil. He was also said to have demanded that his new salary be paid upfront to avoid the delays he suffered in the previous deal, as well as the recall of his former assistant Sylvanus Okpalla.

A top official at the Presidential Villa told africanfootball.com, "He (Keshi) demanded for N10m a month, which he wants to be paid upfront to check any delays.

"He also wanted what he called a free hand as regards his team selection and preparations, saying he no longer wishes to deal with the technical committee.He also wanted Okpalla back to his backroom staff.

"The President has assured him that his demands will be considered."

Meanwhile, Keshi pocketed a total of $300,000 when he led Nigeria to the last 16 of the World Cup, africanfootball.com has learned.

NATIONAL UNION OF TEACHER'S STRIKE SET FOR 10 JULY

Schools in England and Wales face disruption as the NUT go on strike on 10 July. 

Christine Blower, the union's general secretary, said it was a "last resort". "For teachers, performance related pay, working until 68 for a full pension and heavy workload for 60 hours a week, is unsustainable," she said. The Department for Education said there was "no justification" for striking. The NUT leader said that next month's strike date had been chosen to "cause minimum disruption to examinations" - and that "we deeply regret the disruption it causes parents and pupils".

WORKLOAD

The teachers' union has been in talks with the government over its dispute over pay, pensions and workload.But Ms Blower said the talks were "only about the implementation of government policies, not about the fundamental issues we believe to be detrimental to education and the profession".
A spokeswoman for the Department for Education said that talks were still ongoing and there was no justification for a strike.

"Ministers have also met frequently with the unions and will continue to do so".

Further strike action will only disrupt parents' lives, hold back children's education and damage the reputation of the profession,"
said the Department for Education spokeswoman.

"We know that the vast majority of our teachers and school leaders are hardworking and dedicated professionals.That is why we are giving teachers more freedoms than ever and cutting unnecessary paperwork and bureaucracy. In fact, teaching has never been more attractive, more popular or more rewarding".
